The Senators of the Faculty of Health Sciences met for the first time in the new academic year. They replaced their usual meeting place with a larger classroom and approved, in their masks and mandatory social distance, new members of the Disciplinary Committee and the conditions of the admission procedure for a new study programme.

Replacing current members of the Disciplinary Committee was on the agenda for two reasons. “The current board is at the end of its term and two of its student members have finished their studies, so it was necessary to nominate two new members from among the students,” FZV Chairman Lukáš Merz explained. The remaining four members had agreed to continue working for the Committee. Thus, Jana Vyskotová, Bronislava Grygová, Petra Pičmanová on behalf of academics and Renáta Váverková, Simona Konečná and Barbora Švábová on behalf of students will review students’ disciplinary offenses.

The Senators voted in person and agreed to nominate Helena Kisvetrová from the Centre for Science and Research to represent the faculty on the Council of Higher Education Institutions and the Legislative Committee of AS UP.

The Academic Senate of FZV UP also proposed amendments to three policies and procedures. In the case of Electoral Procedures AS FZV UP, the Senators agreed to add an option to hold elections electronically, similarly there will be an amendment to the Rules and Procedures of the Scientific Council of FZV UP to enable online participation in meetings. An approved amendment to the Organizational Regulations of FZV UP changes the name of the Institute of Health Management to the Institute of Health Management and Public Health. The Institute should implement a new bachelor programme in Public Health Protection and Promotion in academic year 2021/2022. The programme is still awaiting approval by the UP Internal Evaluation Board. “The current situation shows that graduates in this field are sorely lacking in the Czech Republic,” added Vice-Dean Zdeňka Mikšová.

The presiding judge reminded to those present that the results of the summer vote per rollam approved an initiative to establish a Nursing doctoral programme in English. The Faculty of Health Sciences is also preparing a new proposal of doctoral studies in Physiotherapy. The programme is currently under consideration. “Impetus to create this programme came mainly from our graduates whom we must refer elsewhere for the time being,” mentioned Petra Gaul Aláčová from the Institute of Clinical Rehabilitation. She also added that they would like to discuss the programme first and in depth with the Faculty of Physical Culture and the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.

At the end of the meeting, a debate ensued regarding a feedback from students on teaching during the epidemic, a general communication with students and a creation of a position for a student representative who would become a "Liaison Officer" between students and faculty management. The nomination of a suitable candidate for the position is currently with members of the Student Association of the FZV. The Student Association was mentioned once more when Dana Galuszková, a Senator and the Head of the Transfusion Department of the University Hospital Olomouc, thanked the students for organizing a recent initiative called the Duel of the Faculties of UP to support free blood donation.
